Lowell Lewis Receives Queen's Anniversary Prize

The University of Surrey has been awarded a Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education in the Diamond Jubilee round for 2010-12.

The award recognises in particular the University's 'in depth research expertise for improving access to safe drinking water and sanitation worldwide'.

Lowell Lewis (pictured), EngD researcher at the University of Surrey, has been working closely with Surrey Sports Park on 'optimising sustainability, performance and public health protection in the design and operational life cycle of sports and leisure pool complexes.' Lowell's research and work was key in the University's success with the Award.

In reaction to receiving the award Lowell said: "Water is often the thing that gets missed when people talk about the environment, but it's just as important. Being awarded the Queen's Anniversary Prize is a great achievement and it means that I'm doing water research at a University that has been acknowledged as a leader in the field."

Representatives of the University will receive the award at Buckingham Palace on 24th February 2012.
