The Stepney Primary and Junior High School, in St. Ann, will be renamed in honour of the late reggae legend, Bob Marley.

Jamaica's Minister with responsibility for Information, Senator the Hon. Sandrea Falconer, who made the disclosure during a Jamaica House press briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister on June 13, said the decision was approved by Cabinet recently.

The school, which has an enrollment of 300 students between six and 15 years of age, will be renamed the Bob Marley Primary and Junior High School, effective September 1.

The change in name is a tribute to the late Robert Nesta Marley, a past student, Ms. Falconer said. Members of the community and the Bob Marley Foundation have also endorsed the name change, she added.

The Minister said the Bob Marley Foundation has been very active in the school through the granting of scholarships and resource materials.
