Forget swimming with dolphins and all you can eat buffets, according to a recent survey commissioned by Royal Caribbean International, 90 percent of Americans ranked sex as the top activity on their cruise itinerary. 80 percent of respondents say they felt more 'connected' with their partner after their last cruise; 67 percent felt more in love and 65 percent felt more attracted to their partner.
Nearly 75% said that spending time together on their latest cruise improved their relationship. 50% of respondents said they were more likely to be intimate on a cruise than on a land vacation. 62% said sex on their last cruise was better than normal, 31% saying they preferred a night time romp while 28% thought that "anytime" was the right time. 24% said the balcony was the place onboard where they would most like a little holiday action.
The survey was conducted online between 27 January and 1 February 2012 among 1,000 adults 18 years of age or older who live in the continental United States. Half of those surveyed had previously taken a cruise, and half hadn't. All respondents indicated that they were currently in a relationship, either married or dating.
Respondents thought cruises were the most romantic type of vacation while offering a better value for their dollar (84%), with 98% saying they would opt for an exotic cruise as a special way to celebrate a special moment or occasion, such as Valentine's Day or an anniversary. 58% said they are more likely to pack lingerie or sexy underwear for a cruise than a land-based vacation.
Couples are more likely to enjoy romantic activities on a cruise than on a land-based vacation, the survey revealed, including watching the sunset (72%), strolling in the moonlight (58%), stargazing (56%) and sharing a romantic dinner ' deux (55%).
Sex was ranked the top activity on their cruise itinerary (90%), ahead of sitting by the pool (84%), enjoying nightlife options (83%) and shopping (70%).
