Stévikha Naomie Foster, a student on the island of Montserrat, is the deserving winner of the Montserrat Progressive Society of New York, Inc 2017 Scholarship Award.

The Scholarship award Stévikha has received is for USD$1000 to attend the Montserrat Community College (MCC). She is now enrolled as a student at the institution.

Stévikha came out tops having satisfied the criteria set by The Montserrat Progressive Society of New York, Incorporated (MPS-NY, Inc.) in April of this year when they invited applications from 5th Formers who attend the Montserrat Secondary School (MSS, for consideration for the USD$1000 scholarship award.

A total of four students from MSS applied for the scholarship.

To be considered, the students had to submit the following credentials that included:

· An essay (500-1000 words, typed, and double-spaced) stating their goals/aspirations and the reason why they should be the recipient of this scholarship.

· The Applicant’s final official Montserrat Secondary School transcript.

· Two teacher recommendation letters, at least one from their last Math or English teacher.

· Applicant had to have at least 5 CXC passes (General 1’s or 2’s), 2 in English & Math.

· Also applicants had to have at least a 3.0 GPA, (B) grade point average or above.

· Accepted to the CAPE Associate Degree Programme at MCC.

· Applicants pursuing their degree had to be registered for a minimum of 6 units.

· Applicants also had to have a proven record of involvement in community development.

The score sheet to determine the 2017 awardee was drawn from areas for possible points accumulation as shown below:
