The Bahamas has always attracted travellers searching for serene islands flush with sandy beaches, clear waters and tropical wildlife. However, The Bahamas also boasts excellent waves, making it a rapidly growing surf paradise! The Bahamas comprises 29 islands, 661 cays and 2,387 islets, cradled within waters that provide the ideal conditions for surfing. The beautiful coastlines and typical lack of crowds make The Bahamas a unique surfing atmosphere.

Notable surf spots in The Bahamas include Punta Rocas, The Abacos, Indica’s and of course, Surfer’s Beach, both on Eleuthera Island. Eleuthera has some of the most desirable and reliable surfing conditions in The Bahamas due to its boomerang shape and prime location along the Atlantic Ocean.

The best time to experience incredible surfing in The Bahamas is during winter. Solid cold fronts come from the east coast of the U.S., creating just the right type of waves. The winter surfing season typically extends from October through to April. Surfers enjoy visiting The Bahamas for its year-round warm weather and lack of crowds giving a sense of privacy and seclusion. As many surfers have put it, they often feel they have the waves all to themselves!

The lovely island of Eleuthera is a great place to try hitting those waves for the first time! They offer “learn to surf” programs where instructors stress safety, fun and solid fundamentals. Group and private lessons are available at Surfer’s Haven in the heart of the Eleuthera Island shoreline.

Surfers come to experience the quiet, unique and incredible surfing in The Bahamas.
