The Awakening Of My Consciousness

Growing up without someone to show you right from wrongÔøΩ
Is just the same as a sweet subtle humming bird without a song
Because how can you do right if you know not how?
Like, how can a bird fly without wings and a guide to learn how?

It's hard not to make mistakes when you don't know what mistakes areÔøΩ
So the mistakes that we sometimes make can't be erasedÔøΩ
Just like wiped blood can always be tracedÔøΩ
Sad how the person to end up behind bars always seems to be a black youthÔøΩ
Caught up in his vital time at the wrong place.
Typically speaking we are stereotypically creating a bad name for our race

Look how some of us are always caught up in crime yet we can't learn
But it's sad how we can't seem to smarten up and make the tables even slightly turn
Maybe it's too heavy, or maybe the competition is too highÔøΩ
For us to reach like a sailing kite underneath the windsÔøΩ
Or like an airplane taking flight
But for some reason young black kids and adult black facesÔøΩ
Can't seem to rise to the occasion and put up a good fight.

I've always been told as a young black male we are suspectÔøΩ
But in this selfish and unequal world the fight for us black people is yet to be won
Yet we are still being huntedÔøΩ
But unlike animals we are hunted every season of the year and cops don't care
Black male runs, he gets gunned down
Crime is stopped they believe, but for a weeping mother no justice is done
When the reason he was shot and killed was for simply stealing food to survive
To feed his loved ones and support his new born son
But Daddy wasn't there to show him what was wrongÔøΩ
So now he's six feet under and mom's sitting in her chairÔøΩ
Being killed softly by her own sweet song
The same song she sang when he was only three when Dad made his run from their lives
