The ReelAbilities Film Festival Los Angeles began Thursday night and continues through Sunday, Oct. 14.
Of note is the Screening and Discussion On Beauty / Moving Images. This panel explores the intersection of disability and image, asking, “What is beautiful?” “Why is disability so rarely seen as beautiful from a cultural perspective?” “How can this 'problem' be dealt with from both sides of the lens?"
PANELISTS:
Andrew Angulo, Photographer and filmmaker
Lawrence Carter-Long, Director of Communications, Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund
Angela Rockwood, Model/actress
Stephanie Thomas, Fashion designer, lecturer
This panel discussion will be moderated by RespectAbility Board Member Dr. Donna R. Walton, an educator, author and inspiring speaker who addresses numerous issues of concern to Black women and women of color with disabilities. Through the two organizations she founded, LeggTalk, Inc. and the Divas With Disabilities Project, Dr. Walton is using these platforms to dispel the myths and misconceptions about the capabilities and contributions people with disabilities can make to our diverse world. Her work has increased access and inclusion opportunities in countless industries that have traditionally marginalized the participation of the women she represents.
