With summer now in full swing, students are out of school and looking for jobs, and recent graduates are seeking to start their careers. It can be a challenging and daunting task for young adults, but a strong resumé will provide a strong foundation for future success.

Diane Miller, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and AACSB at the Goodman School of Business, offers the following tips that will help students beef up their resumé.

Build your work experience. A co-operative education program is vital to ensuring you have on-the-job experience that will give you a taste of the working world in your chosen field. There is no better teacher than experience.

Be a volunteer. It shows that you care about your community and are driven to help make the world a better place.

Be a student leader. The more student clubs and groups there are, the more opportunities there are for a student to be involved as a student club leader. This is another dimension that shows you can apply your skills in a diverse environment.

Solid academics. While it may seem obvious, seek an accredited program that has a respected classroom program, with strong professors and a good reputation.
