WASHINGTON, D.C.--People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker released the following statement in response to Robert Mueller’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee:

“Robert Mueller confirmed today that his report did not exonerate Trump for obstruction of justice. He was asked point blank by Chairman Nadler, 'Did you actually totally exonerate the president?’ Mueller said, ‘No.’ When Trump says otherwise, he’s lying, just as his team lied, repeatedly, to the special counsel.

“As we learned from the Mueller report, Russia launched a massive attack on our elections in the 2016 presidential campaign to help Trump win. The report details more than 270 secret contacts between Trump’s team and Russian-linked operatives. When Mueller’s team began investigating Russian election interference, members of Trump’s team lied to the special counsel in ways that impeded the investigation, and the report details 10 instances in which Trump could be credibly accused of obstruction of justice.

“As a result of the investigation, five people went to prison. One person was convicted at trial. Seven people pleaded guilty. Thirty-seven people and entities were charged, and 199 charges were filed. And if Trump were not president, he absolutely would have been charged with obstruction of justice.

“Trump can't tweet himself out of the Mueller report's damning conclusions. No one is above the law, not even the president. We urge the House to move forward with holding Trump accountable through every method at their disposal, including impeachment.”
