Phone providers used to seem like the perfect guy: They contacted you regularly, promised a stable relationship, kept you fed with plenty of minutes, and even surprised you with free upgrades. But before you knew it, your phone provider began to change...

According to the Ooma.com Valentine's Day Survey—a national survey of 1,000 Americans conducted by VoIP service provider Ooma [http://www.ooma.com]—44% of Americans are afraid of commitment to long-term phone contracts. That number is even higher (57%) for Americans who fear commitment in relationships.

The reasons Americans are sick of their phone providers sound a lot like a relationship gone sour:

*** TOP 5 REASONS AMERICANS ARE SICK OF THEIR PHONE PROVIDERS ***

#1: Expensive (25%)
#2: Unreliable (e.g. my calls drop a lot) (10%)
#3: Unpredictable (e.g. my bill changes from month to month (9%)
#4: Possessive (e.g. they locked me in a contract) (9%)
#5: I can't trust it (e.g. they have hidden fees) (9%)

Other interesting findings include:

>> FOR MOST AMERICANS, BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO

Despite their frustration with contract-based phone plans, most Americans are afraid to go through with the breakup—only 11% have a pay-as-you-go phone plan.

>> 1 IN 4 AMERICANS HAVE THE MOST EXPENSIVE PHONE BILLS ON EARTH

23% of Americans pay at least $70 per month for their phone. That's at least $21 more than the world's most expensive phone bills, which can be found in Canada.
