Vernetta Williams Named Montserrat's Teacher of the Year

Vernetta Williams was named Teacher of the Year at the Annual Teacher and Student Awards for 2012/13 on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.

Mrs Williams has been a teacher since 1975 and has served at schools across Montserrat, spending the last 19 years with the St. Augustine Primary School. Noticeably surprised when her name was called, Mrs Williams thanked the Ministry of Education for the honour, her family and friends who support with special mention to the teachers and the students which allow her to do what she loves.

Honoured as Student of the Year was Nadia Browne, a fifth form student at the Montserrat Secondary School. Browne was also the MSS nominee for last year's award. In the past school year she has been recognised for her school spirit and initiative, winning the top prize in the first ECCB Business Innovation Competition.

During the two-hour celebration outgoing principal of the St. Augustine School Ms Ann Marie Dewar and Mrs Hyacinth Bramble-Browne of the MSS received the Long Service awards.

Other outstanding teacher nominees were: Verna Johnson of Brades Primary, Ingrid Tolan of MSS, and Yvette Julius of Lookout Primary.ÔøΩ

Outstanding student nominees were: Nickiesha Scotland of Lookout Primary, Kijahrie Barzey of Brades Primary, Khyra West of St. Augustine Primary and Tiffany Weekes of Lighthouse Community Academy.
