WASHINGTON, DC: On Saturday, November 7th 2015, the Caribbean-American Political Action Committee (C-PAC) will celebrate ten years of advocacy, public service and engagement on behalf of the Caribbean Community in the Washington Metropolitan area (the DMV) during its Annual Founding Patrons Luncheon to be held at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel in Silver Spring, MD. The Mayor for Washington, DC, Muriel Browser has been invited to deliver the keynote address. In so doing, she will recognize CPAC’s decade-long commitment to advancing the political agenda of the DMV Caribbean Community.

C-PAC was founded in 2005 by three visionaries, Chris Gardiner (Bahamas/Turks & Caicos Islands), Denys Vaughn Cooke (Guyana) and Elisabeth Stanley (U.S. Virgin Island), and supported by ninety-seven other founding patrons representing most of the countries of the Caribbean. During the past ten years, it has become recognized by politicians throughout the DMV as the "political voice" of the Caribbean Community. Many have sought, and received, C-PAC’s financial support and endorsement. These include Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker III, and Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett; former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown; DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, and former DC Mayors Adrian Fenty and Vincent Gray as well as Maryland State Sen. Shirley Nathan-Pulliam, and former Maryland Delegate Aisha Braveboy.

Among its many achievements, C-PAC advocated for, and was instrumental in the establishment of Offices of Caribbean Commissions in the District of Columbia and Montgomery County, Maryland, and helping to keep Carnival alive in the District of Columbia for a number of years. Under the able leadership Dr. Goulda A. Downer (Jamaica), C-PAC will continue to serve the political needs of the DMV Caribbean Community well into the future. In her words: We will support those candidates for political office who espouse our views and positions, and we will oppose those who don’t.
