Hotel William Gray Now Open in Old Montreal
Montreal's newest luxury boutique hotel is doing what the city does best: mixing up old and modern. A beautiful glass tower sits atop two 18th-century buildings, which house 27 elegant rooms and suites with high-end amenities inside. Other unique features include a branch of a local coffee shop, an upmarket grill, a rooftop terrace and bar, and a full service spa with outdoor pool and fitness centre (spa set to open this fall). 'Round Table Tours Offers New Afternoon Tea Experience
'Round Table Tours offer a number of excellent, well-curated culinary tours around Montreal. A new tour takes visitors around the city on an exploration of tea. Guests will meet a Montreal-based Chinese tea grower and retailer, visit one of the top five tea importers in the world to learn how to do a tea tasting from their tea sommelier, and then visit a Paris-based shop that specializes in tea mixology. The tour costs $125 per person and includes several stops, tastings, a cocktail and small bites at most stops. Other tours that 'Round Table Tours offer include a wine tour, bike tour of food trucks around the city, chocolate tour, and a Jewish Montreal tour (bagels!).
Red Bull Music Academy
The Red Bull Music Academy is a world-travelling event that celebrates and makes music history through exhibits, lectures and programming. Previously in cities like Berlin, New York, Tokyo and Paris, the Academy will now touch down in Montreal from September 24 to October 28. The unusual event is part music festival that is open to the public, but also a private conference for musicians from
around the world such as Iggy Pop and Björk.
Björk Digital Brings Virtual Reality Experience to Montreal
As part of the Red Bull Music Academy event, Icelandic musician Björk will bring Björk Digital, a virtual reality (VR) exhibit, to the DHC/ART Foundation for Contemporary Art in Old Montreal from October 15 to November 12. The exhibit features several of her VR video works, including a new piece that has been commissioned by the Academy and will
premiere in Montreal.
Canadian Premiere of Robert Mapplethorpe Photography Exhibit
Robert Mapplethorpe was a world-renowned American photographer known for his black and white photography, including celebrity portraits, nudes, self-portraits and still life images. His works compelled new reflection on questions of gender, race and sexuality. From now until January 22, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will present the Canadian premiere of Focus : Perfection - Robert Mapplethorpe. This show shines a new light on his exquisite black and white portraits (watch for Richard Gere, Andy Warhol and Patti Smith), nudes and still life photographs.
Canada's First Co-working Space for Food Entrepreneurs
Food co-working spaces are already available in Boston, San Francisco and LA, but now Montreal has introduced the FoodRoom, a culinary co-working space with a fully-equipped industrial kitchen as well as office space intended solely for food entrepreneurs. Montreal has always been on the cutting edge of food creativity, and this collaborative space should help take the city to an entirely new level.
