The celebrated comedian and author Dr. William "Bill" Cosby is quoted to have said that, "In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure". We may now ask what defines success? According to Oxford's Dictionary, success is defined as "The accomplishment of an aim or purpose." A young person in whatever field of interest may say that one is not successful because one is not at the top of his or her game. This may come to mean that you are not holding a managerial position at your current place of employment, or in academics, not ranking at the top of your class. Let us therefore look at examples of success, by embarking on a journey of successful thinking.

There are stages to final success. Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt is now globally recognized and labeled as the fastest man in the world. His ascension to that capacity and stardom didn’t occur over night, but through hard work and dedication. We often times idolize the successes of individuals, but fail to set goals to facilitate our own personal growth toward that capacity. How can one dream of success in one's field of interest, be inspired by those individuals who are currently occupying that position, but do not action the urge towards gaining success?

Many of us are left walking with our heads in the clouds, imitating the "Great Ones" all the while hoping that success would pass our way. You must first have the desire to be successful, and marry it up with the passion and drive to achieve greatness. Vince Lombardi one of the greatest coaches in the NFL said, "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will".

Whatever interests, goals or dreams you may have you must work hard at it and want to be the best. The trait of determination is invaluable in the walk of life, the ability to persevere through endeavours is key to your ascension. These words quoted from Steve Jobs says, "The one who never gives up is the one who has only one way out, and that is to find success".

Think about it! Beginning today onwards, challenge yourselves to stay focused on the bigger picture. Working hard daily toward success and to fight on through every struggle and test. Therefore, let us now add our own "Coda" as it were to Oxford's aforementioned definition of success to include hard work, dedication, sacrifice and not simply by harbouring enormous aspirations and very little to no follow through.
