The Government of Montserrat is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Assistant Civil Engineer, within the Infrastructure Division, Ministry of Communication, Works, Labour and Energy (MCWLE).

JOB PURPOSE

To provide engineering support and other services that include assisting in the preparation of tender and contract documents to the Department, that will aid in the general development of the country's infrastructure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in engineering analysis and design of civil engineering structures as may be assigned by the Department Manager.
  • Prepare engineering drawings, bill of quantities and contract document for estimation purposes by contractor and also for construction purposes.
  • Carry out on site supervision in concurrence with issued designs from the Department, for implementation by contractors.
  • Update the Government Engineer on the progress of assigned projects and any difficulties that may be encountered.
  • Undertake valuations of work done and at different periods of the life of the project and assist in the preparation of payment certificates, for payments to be made to the contactors.
  • Reviews of Planning Applications (i.e.) plans coming from the Physical Planning Unit for residential and commercial development (e.g.) the inclusion of access roads/drainage to and from proposed land to be developed, as may be assigned by the Department Manager.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS

The applicant must have:-

  • BSc in Civil Engineering and a minimum of three (3) years' experience in similar field;
  • Knowledge of engineering application software;
  • Technical skills requirements, post-education;
  • Experience in structural engineering practice;
  • The ability to clearly communicate with peers, the general public and all levels within the Government sector;
  • Teamwork and Self motivation;
  • The ability to convey instructions with precision and clarity to those being supervised
  • The ability to demonstrate leadership qualities by meeting due dates, and dealing with problems with an innovation approach.

NB: Appointment will be made on a contractual basis for a period of 18 months.

Basic Salary

R17- R13: XCD $4,908.00 - $5,436.00 / Month
