Semi-Skilled Labourer

The Government of Montserrat is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Semi-Skilled Labourer, within the Ministry of Communications, Works Labour and Energy.

JOB PURPOSE

To undertake highway maintenance works, emergency works and any other Public Works activities as directed by the Public Works Department Senior Foreman and also to assist with the operation of small tools and equipment such as the weed wacker, road cutter and the stamper compactor.  To assist with road construction, the production of hot mix, make kerbs, slabs and culverts for road works and perform general maintenance work around the compound.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with the repair and maintenance operations on the hot mix plant.
• Assist with batching productions of hot mix.
• Carryout maintenance operations on the compound. (cleaning /cutting yard, digging drains, stacking away tools/equipment etc.)
• Construct concrete kerbs, culverts and slabs.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS

The applicant should possess:-

• Secondary School education. 
• A working knowledge of mechanical operations and electrical components would be an asset.
• Knowledge of constructing slabs, culverts, kerbs.
• Basic math skills – measuring quantities.
• A clean Police Record.
• The ability to work as part of a team.
• The ability to communicate effectively.
